Blazing Reader,
Gwyneth Cann, a voracious reader and former co-owner of a large bookstore, had this to say after reading my novel, All the Humans Are Sleeping:
It was a pleasure to read — gripping, I loved the imagery you employed, the interiority of the characters, the robot poetry:) and, after the sad ***** ** *****, I was extremely pleased at the ************* of his *******. A great cliffhanger ending!
No, she's not swearing here. The *** are to black out a few spoilers.
The moral and ethical development of the Domesticbot intrigues me... It brought to mind Samwise Gamgee (Frodo's gardener and best friend), who was an emblem of unwavering loyalty and resilience.
It never consciously occurred to me the parallel between Frodo and Sam in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and Peter and Domestico in my novel, All the Humans Are Sleeping. In both cases, the protagonists of the stories falter on the hero's journey, and their quest is taken up by their trusted servant. In Tolkien's epic, the trusted servant is a stocky, three-foot Hobbit who likes to garden; in my novel, it's a thin, six-foot robot who... likes to farm.
